Carly Jean is a teenage girl growing up in rural middle America just trying to survive the summer before her last year of high school.
During the day she works off her community sentence by visiting elderly women and making them lunch in their homes. In the evening she enjoys stealing cars and going for a joy rides. It’s become an obsession, something vital to understanding her purpose in the world. She lives and breathes for the feeling of a near death experience.
Unfortunately for her, the local sheriff doesn’t appreciate her penchant for destruction and issues her a final warning. When she ends up in a wreck, she’s discovered by Wayne- a curmudgeonly, foul-mouthed, whiskey-drinking, ex demolition derby driver.
Wayne sees something in her… Something he maybe once saw in himself a long long time ago. Something that could maybe make her the next demolition derby champ… and maybe also save both of them from themselves.
Crashing and Burning is a coming-of-age story about resurrection, redemption, destruction and the pains of growing up a teenage girl.
